Pippi and Eeyore

Last week Helena dressed up as her favourite book character since the school had it's annual book fair. She loved being Pippi Langstocking for the day.

Lois wasn't to be outdone so she dressed up as Eeyore for the day. We visited the Blanksby's and Noah and Mac really liked her outfit.

Just as well we bought those long bright socks when we were in Klaksvík!

Hairst in Faroe

In the October holidays we spent two weeks in Faroe.

We met our lovely cousin Durita for the first time. She is 18 months and we had lots of fun playing with her and staying at her house.

Just before we arrived Omma had her 60th birthday. However she delayed the party till we arrived so we got to share the cake!

We met Grímur and Beinta's friends John, Marian, Tróndur and Olgar when we were up. We had great fun swimming at the pool in Klaksvík and looking for crabs in da ebb. Helena and Olgar were great friends.

We also had a lovely picnic under the big stone in the plantation in Kunoy. It was 6pm in October but the temp was about 16 degrees!

One of the highlights of the holiday for Helena was going to Lort i Byin - a singing and dancing show. Mammy even got her own share of the fame! We then saw Meyla and friends again in SMS and got their autographs. Meyla lives next door to some of Babba's cousins so Helena even wrote a letter to her and put it in her postbox.
We had the "pleasure" of watching Faroe play France in the Euro 2008 qualifiers. 6-0 to the visitors! Never mind - got to see Thierry Henry play!

Rainbow Girl

In October Helena went to her promise party and became a fully fledged Rainbow. She loves going every Wednesday afternoon where they play games, do crafts and have lots of fun.

Bindiklubb

Omma and fastir visited in September before Fastir set off on her "Round the World" jaunt. Thankfully being a jet-setting super-cool girl doesn't mean she's too proud to knit!

Shetland - fun and cake

After Babba went home we stayed in Shetland with Auntie Lyn and Uncle Lyndon. We had lots of fun.

One day we went to Waas. We had the best cake we have ever tasted (honest) in the Baker's Rest Tearoom, which we would highly recommend. Then we had lots of fun in the Waas Play park.

The sun shines all the time in Shetland - well, on the Wast side anyway.

We had a fantastic afternoon in Eshaness, despite the drizzle. We didn't even have time to sample all of Eshaness' delights. We saw Johnnie Notions Bod, the inventor of his own small pox innoculation. (I'm not aware that he was in on any government conspiracy - just saw a clinical need and addressed it. Fantastic!)

We visited the Tangwick Haa Museum. There was lots of interesting things to look. We especially liked the old ben room and the wedding dress. As usual we spent lots of time choosing souvenirs in the shop.

After meandering through the museum we went to the Eshaness graveyard - a most interesting place. We saw Johnnie Notions grave and read the unfortunate account of the death of a man after mistakenly being given Nitre by the Sullom apothecary, when he had asked for Epsom salts. He died within hours of taking it.

We than had a delicious tea at the Breiwick cafe.

What a place - how come nobody wants to live there?

(I should work for the Shetland Tourist Board)

SCYC 2007

In July we went to Shetland for the Christian Youth Camp (see Babba's Blog for a camp report). We had lots of fun. Helena feels very at home at camp and wasn't there long before she asked if she could join in with Hazel and Nicola's group. Lois really enjoyed herself too.

The weather was pretty variable but we still managed the picnic.

Helena and Mhia loved having their "sumo" fight. I think it was a draw.

Mhia really enjoyed her week at camp.

Helping Mammy

Helena and Lois enjoy helping Mammy watering the plants. This is the "bleeding heart" which we bought through the school - it's doing very well.

Royal Yacht Britannia

Yesterday we went on the Fernielea Assembly Outing.
We travelled by bus to Edinburgh then had a tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia. We then travelled back, stopping for High Tea in Dunfermline. A lovely day with plenty of time for sitting chatting on the bus!

Helena enjoyed listening to all the information on the audio tour. She did not appreciate being hurried along if the "man" was still speaking at the last station!

Lois enjoyed the experience from the comfort of her buggy - no escape!

"Will I ring the bell for tea Ma'am?"

Time to go home!

Gander in the Garden with Nanna and Laura

Last week we had a visit from Nanna and Daa and Mark and Laura.
I went with Mammy, Nanna and Laura for a trip to Leith Hall garden. I really liked the flowers and running around the garden.
